I grew up in a small town outside of Philadelphia with a mom, stepdad, and brother who loved each other and loved me well. After graduating from Wake Forest University, I moved to Atlanta for physical therapy school—and that’s where everything in my life changed.
During those years, I realized how tired, alone, and hopeless I was after chasing everything the world offered. A friend shared the hope of Jesus with me, and after years of conversations, I finally believed that Jesus died for my sins. That truth changed everything.
In Atlanta, I also met the woman who would become my wife—Kristen, one of my teachers in grad school (not as scandalous as it sounds!)—and experienced for the first time what a healthy, Christ-centered church looked like. Those moments stirred in me a desire to serve the local church vocationally.
Kristen and I got married in 2001 and moved to Dallas in 2002 so I could attend Dallas Theological Seminary. We now have four incredible sons—Duncan, Drew, Carson, and Lincoln—and love life together in Texas.
Since 2006, I’ve had the privilege of serving in full-time marriage ministry—14 years at Watermark, followed by five great years at another church in Waco. I’m thrilled to be back at Watermark helping churches across the country with Merge and Foundation Groups. I’ve written a few books about marriage and co-host the More Than Roommates Marriage Podcast. Our family loves college football, Pine Cove Family Camp, our doodle Bauer, and you can usually catch me with a book in hand or writing about marriage.
